Artist Bio
Andrew Wyeth (1917–2009) was an American realist painter celebrated for his meticulous depictions of rural life in Pennsylvania and Maine. Born in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, to the renowned illustrator N. C. Wyeth, he was educated at home and trained in art from an early age due to fragile health. By his early twenties, Wyeth had already achieved major recognition, including a sold‑out solo exhibition. Working primarily in watercolor and egg tempera, he developed a distinctive style marked by restraint, precision, and emotional undercurrents—qualities that led critics to associate his work with Magic Realism. Among the most widely recognized American artists of the 20th century, Wyeth’s legacy was further shaped by the later revelation of his extensive Helga series, deepening the sense of mystery and intimacy that defines his work.
