Artist Bio
Paul Laffoley (1935–2015) was an American visionary artist and architect based in Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Cambridge, he graduated with honors from Brown University in 1961 in classics, philosophy, and art history, and later studied architecture at Harvard University and the Boston Architectural Center. Beginning in the early 1970s, Laffoley developed a distinctive body of large‑scale, diagrammatic paintings that integrate text, geometry, and symbolic systems, situating his work within the field of visionary art. Working from his long‑established studio known as the Boston Visionary Cell, he produced a substantial body of work that is now widely collected and institutionally recognized. He died in Boston in 2015.
