Artist Bio
Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was a pioneering modernist painter celebrated for his vivid colors and dreamlike imagery inspired by love, memory, Jewish folklore, and spirituality. Born in Vitebsk (now Belarus) to a Hasidic Jewish family, he drew deeply from his childhood experiences, later shaping his distinctive style in Paris, where he absorbed avant-garde influences. Chagall’s work—featuring floating lovers, musicians, animals, and biblical scenes—bridges personal memory and mysticism. In his later years, he created major public works including stained-glass windows and the ceiling of the Paris Opera, securing his legacy as one of the most beloved artists of the 20th century.
