Artist Bio
Joan Miró (1893–1983) was a Catalan painter, sculptor, and printmaker who played a central role in shaping 20th‑century modern art. Born in Barcelona, he developed a highly personal visual language that fused abstraction and Surrealism, marked by bold color, biomorphic forms, and calligraphic line. Working across painting, prints, ceramics, and monumental public works, Miró sought to break from conventional representation—what he famously called the “assassination of painting.” His poetic, dreamlike imagery remains among the most influential and widely collected bodies of work in modern art.
