Artist Bio
Harry H. Howe (Harry Hambro Howe, 1886–1966) was an American marine and landscape painter best known for his oil paintings of New England’s working waterfronts, particularly Gloucester, Massachusetts. Born in Boston and trained by his father, Captain T. Bailey Howe—a mariner and painter—he developed a lifelong focus on sailing ships, fishing boats, wharves, and coastal scenery. Active throughout the early to mid‑20th century, Howe produced a substantial body of work that captures the atmosphere and character of maritime New England. His paintings remain sought after by collectors of American marine art for their authentic subject matter and enduring sense of place.
